Spyware Doctor Review by PC Magazine

Spyware Doctor 3.5 is another evolutionary step toward that great day when we’ll hold antispyware products to the same standard as antiviruses—removal of every known in-the-wild threat. It’s not there yet, but the new scanning features give it more power to combat rootkits and other high-powered malware. And the scan results (which we’ve complained about in the past) are more informative. There’s still some work to do, but this is the best Spyware Doctor yet

Pros:
Removed and blocked all but one spyware threat in testing. New Kernel Delete and hidden-process removal fight rootkits. Scan Results now includes local threat details.

Cons:
Quarantine list is confusing and uninformative. Automatic updates not turned on by default.

Bottom Line:
Spyware Doctor 3.5 is the best version yet. It blocked all but one of our 15 spyware samples and removed all but one. It also handled most of our commercial keyloggers. The results page now gives useful info about found threats, though the Quarantine List still needs some improvement.

…like the spyware removal features of Spyware Doctor, and consider it one of the most effective available, but the anemic free version will make it hard for users to fully realize its true potential.

The Good: Fast scan times, Thorough results
The Bad: Advanced features disabled in free version
The Bottom Line: With its quick scanning and multiple tools for stopping malware before it infects your computer, Spyware Doctor is a solid spyware remover.

PC World takes additional steps to test and compare PC Tools’ Spyware Doctor with Microsoft’s AntiSpyware and Sunbelt’s CounterSpy.
