Taskbar in Windows 10 is prominently in black (dark) and white (light) color, with ability to show accent color on several surfaces. Windows 10 does not provide direct setting to change the color of the Taskbar. Instead, the color of Taskbar changed when you change the color mode of Windows 10. In addition, depending on the color mode (light mode or dark mode) Windows is in, it will directly affects how you can customize the color of Taskbar, even though the option is limited.

The most obvious color of Taskbar is dark black and light white. To switch between these two colors, change the Windows 10 color:

Note
Changing color mode will change colors for all UI elements of Windows 10 and also apps which supports Windows color mode.
  1. Open Colors in Settings.
  2. Under Choose your color, select Light to make Taskbar to white, or Dark to make Taskbar black.

If you just want the Taskbar color to be dark, but the most other GUI elements including the apps to be in light mode, or vice versa, follow these steps:

  1. Open Colors in Settings.
  2. Under Choose your color, select Custom.
  3. Then under Choose your default Windows mode, select Light to make Taskbar white, or Dark to make Taskbar black.
  4. You can change “Choose your default app mode” if you wish, which determines whether to apply dark mode to running apps.
Change Taskbar Color
You can personalize the color of the Start button, Taskbar and action center (i.e. showing accent color) only if you select Dark or Custom (and then Dark for Windows mode) as the Windows color.

It’s also possible to show the accent color on Taskbar. To do so, select the checkbox for Start, taskbar, and action center under Show accent color on the following surfaces. Optionally, you can also show accent colors for window title bars and borders. Proceed to choose your accent color if you haven’t. You can also let Windows 10 automatically pick an accent color from desktop background wallpaper or theme by opting the checkbox for “Automatically pick an accent color from my background”.

Note
Color of Taskbar will always applied to Start and action center.

Do note that theme may change the Windows color mode when you activating it. If your Taskbar color changed by a theme, or sometimes Windows upgrade such as updating to Windows 10 May 2020 Update Version 2004 may reset the color, then you may need to change the color settings again if the Taskbar is not in your preferred color.
