Microsoft Money 2007 Unable to Connect to Internet to Sign In Online in Windows Vista Error

Home»Software»Personal Finance»Microsoft Money 2007 Unable to Connect to Internet to Sign In Online in Windows Vista Error
It seems like application compatibility in Windows Vista has a long way to go before it’s improved to a “usable” stable level, as even the interoperability of various Microsoft products within Windows Vista is causing users various problems. One such application is Microsoft Money 2007. After solving the error of unable to login to Money 2007 with Windows Live ID, the next problem may occur. Symptom of the problem is that user cannot sign in online with the following error message.

You must be connected to the internet to sign in online.

However, on the other hand, the user can browse the Internet normally with web browser such as IE7, log on to Windows Live Messenger and may even using always-on broadband connection. Beside, the symptom happens occasionally, sometimes sign in authenticated without error. However, Microsoft Money may break and lose connection with the quotes server within 10 minutes, together with Windows’ network connection. Turning off Windows Firewall does not help too.

When the problem occurs, user can still sign in to the Money file in local offline mode. This presents a possible workaround to the error. To sign in to the Money file, simply click and select “I want to sign in to Money directly, without access to all online services” or “Work Offline” option. User now should be able to sign in to Money. If you still need to access online features, go to Tools menu, and then go to “Internet Updates”. Select “Sign in with my Windows Live ID” to login in order to pay bills, download statements or get stock quotes.

Another possible solution for users who conveniently using the convenient “Remember password” feature is by unchecking (unticking) the “Remember password”. Once uncheck, try to login to Money. If successful, on the subsequent sign ins, user can check the “Remember password” option again and yet still able to sign on to Money with online access.

Hello- thanks for this article- I went thru all the same steps- and ended up with the same result- after much troubleshooting, I was able to restore my money 2007, but I also must view it by signing in "offline". The problem I have is that when I click on tools, then internet updates, and then sign in using my Windows Live ID, the money program says, "You muse be connection to the internet to sign in online"- but I am- with a high speed cable connection on which i can check e-mail, browse on this site etc. So can anyone tell me why my money program suddenly doesn't recognize my internet connection- I've dont troubleshooting on this including turning off firewalls etc, and nothing helps..
    Thanks

Hi Danielle, try to turn off UAC to see if it solves the problem, then turn back on.

  • Danielle

it totally worked- after two and a half hours of trying, I finally found the tip that got it all worked out!
But what a pain- Windows Vista still has many kinks to work out!
    Thanks again-
    Danielle

Give “COMPUTER\Users” “Full” control to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2007 folder. That fixed mine.

  • John

To give full control go through Computer C: drive Program Files (x86) then find the Microsoft Money 2007 folder and right click on it, click Properties. Then find the Security tab. Click on Edit, then select 'Users (comp-nameUsers), check the checkbox for 'Full Control' and hit Ok.

I was then able to log in.

John, you rock, fixed me right up.

John, you are a savior! Listen to his exact instructions to fix your issue!

    Yes!!!!!

Everyone is too quick to blame Vista. This exact problem is happening to me on XP.

it is not just Vista, but it microsoft…. it cannot be pushed as an update if you such problems…

  • I had the same issue… internet connection to login to ms money 2007. The problem turns out that I forgot my system clock has been off recently (bad bios battery). Anyhow, resetting the clock to the correct date/time corrected everything. MS Money appears to utilize the system clock for some purpose to login to live id.

Thank you for taking the time to post! Unchecking the 'remember password' is what worked for me.

  • Alex

Guys, just before MS MONEY asks to enter the live login and password it asks you to accept or deny their live agreement. JUST HIT DENY and then tutorial will proceed to creating local password and after that, you'll be able to use your MS Money offline.

SO I FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INTERNET EXPLORER SET UP AND RUNNING PROPERLY. CHECK TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS FOR 'PROXY SERVER" SETTINGS. APPARENTLY MONEY HAS TO USE THE CONNECTION THROUGH INTERNET EXPLORER. HAVE A NICE DAY.

  • Jim

I tried John's fix, but I'm running XP, and the Properties tab has no Security tab, and thus no "Give Full Control" option. What now? Unticking the Remember Password box didn't work either.
