PDF2CAD conversion utility from Visual Integrity has the ability to convert PDF files into DXF CAD exchange format which can be opened in most popular CAD packages such as AutoCAD and Microstation, which can later be re-saved and converted to DXF, DWG, DGN, CAD, CAM, CAE or CNC format. PDF2CAD features ability to accurately reproduces PDF vector geometry in DXF format, preserves curves as splines in DXF output, preserves PDF font text as searchable and editable text (MTEXT) in DXF output, option to merge characters into words and one-line text strings, option to outline font text to vector paths in DXF output (per font or all), option to apply font name mappings during conversion (correct or substitute), and ability to extracts embedded raster images to separate TIFF or JPEG files, referenced in the DXF output.

Cadalyst (dead link) has a first look review on Visual Integrity PDF2CAD version 6.1 and writes that Visual Integrity’s PDF2CAD is a Windows tool that is licensed to one user on one computer from $195 for a single-user license. Multiuser packs and volume licensing are available. An Advantage Support subscription option provides software support and a maintenance program that covers free upgrades that may be released during the course of your subscription. PDF2CAD is not a network or server tool, so there are no floating licenses for concurrent use. Visual Integrity does, however, offer PDF-to-DXF conversion technology in both server and developer versions that run on Linux, Sun, Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX and Windows. A evaluation version of PDF2CAD is available for download at www.pdf2cad.com. You also can upload send a PDF file for conversion, with the results e-mailed back to you.
