These notifications aren’t connected to any app or to your files, and Microsoft intends to use it to provide “product education” such as new features or information on how to use Windows better.

If you’re not thrilled to have such notifications take up such as large important screen estate of File Explorer, the “ads” can be turned off. Here’s how to disable the notifications in File Explorer of Windows 10:

  1. Launch File Explorer.
  2. Go to View tab on the ribbon menu.
  3. Click or tap on Options.
  4. In “Folder Options”, go to View tab.
  5. Under “Advanced settings”, uncheck Show sync provider notifications.
