Gearlive selects iRiver Clix as Hot Gear with rating of 9 out of 10, and concludes that “iRiver clix is the PlaysForSure device we have been waiting for in many ways, and in others we hoped for a little more. Our biggest gripe is storage space. In this day and age, 2 GB of storage – especially when video playback is a feature of the device – just isn’t enough for people who want to carry around a large portion of their library, let alone their entire media catalog. We look forward to the day when the clix debuts with more internal memory. However, for what it is, the clix is a gem. It is a device that doesn’t try to copy the iPod in any way, which has been the downfall of a lot of other players released on the Windows side of things. Intuitive navigation, great file playback, and strong FM player make it a winner. Flash games, voice recording, and video playback add to it’s value, but aren’t what will sell the product. At $199.99, we think the clix is a steal for everything you get.”
CNet gives excellent rating of 8.7 out of 10 and concludes that the iRiver Clix is a superbly designed MP3 player that’s easy to use and packed with pretty much every feature in the book. If you’re looking for a stylish Janus-compatible device and you don’t need a boatload of storage, this is your player. Good points are sleek and stylish, the iRiver Clix offers a unique, intuitive interface and comes with extras such as an FM radio, a voice recorder, an alarm clock, support for OGG files and subscription content, and photo, video, and text viewing. The Clix includes SRS Wow sound effects, it has good battery life, and it’s priced competitively. While bad points are iRiver Clix’s ample screen is a magnet for fingerprints, and the device maxes out at only 2GB. The cool and useful cradle is sold separately.
