Microsoft Windows 11 has celebrated its first birthday and delivered its first big feature update, which is Windows 11 22H2.
Windows users are typically pretty resistant to change when it comes to the user interface (UI). One of the most controversial is the new Start Menu, which takes up more space while displaying less information and isn’t as customizable as the one in Windows 10. Though it probably has its fans, many people have given its interface a thumbs down. If you’re one of them, though, you can do more than just complain about it.
This isn’t a new phenomenon, of course. Every new version of Windows brings out its share of negative reactions from people who wonder why Microsoft felt it necessary to change things up for no obvious reason. Windows 11, however, seems to have kicked that reaction up to, uh … 11, especially with the decision to remove some features that power users took for granted.
There are ways to make it look and work the way you want. If that’s not enough, the good news is there’s a thriving community of developers like Stardock’s Start 11 and StartAllBack building utilities to restore a more traditional Start menu and set the look, layout, colors, and other elements.
